Tulum
Hey Sunshinez World what’s going on? I missed yall. Thought I’d write this article and tell you guys all about my trip to Tulum Mexico. Last year I visited Mexico three different times. I had some COVID makeup traveling to do from 2020 being that everybody was shut down for a while (lol). On my last two trips to Mexico, I visited Cancun and Cabo San Lucus. My third trip Tulum. While I didn’t exactly stay in Tulum, my resort was a 24-minute drive to Tulum’s infamous beach front strip.
Tulum is a resort town on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, around 80 miles south of Cancun. Its sits off a horseshoe shaped beach strip with a narrow road, there’s only one way in and one way out. Tulum Playa is a calm hidden refuge in the jungle. There is barely electricity and running water in some spots, and the main mode of transportation is bike.
Tulum boosts hotels, beautiful resorts, restaurants, beach clubs, lounge, boutiques, and more. The hotels and resorts are smaller along this strip and more expensive. Most travelers choose to stay in surrounding cities and take the short commute to Tulum daily for entertainment.
My friends and I stayed at Bahia Principle Luxury Akumal all-inclusive Resort which was far from Luxury. The resort also has several other hotels on the property as well. The Akumal hotel was very old and outdated although very clean. The mask mandate was strictly enforced. In the buffet they required you to wear a new pair of disposable gloves when making your plate. Every restaurant should make this mandatory forever. There were no elevators and although there were several restaurants on the property, we couldn’t get a single reservation our whole 4 day stay. Therefore, you’re stuck eating at the bland and nasty buffet every day. Room service is worst, the French fries and pizza were never fully cooked. Food was not offered poolside as I normally am use to at every other resort I’ve ever stayed at. This came as a surprise. If I had to rate this hotel, I would give it 2 Stars out of 5.
On the bright side the restaurants on the Tulum Strip made up for all the ones I never got a chance to experience on the resort. Funky Geisha Asian Inspired Restaurant was amazing. This was a beachfront restaurant whose floors are the natural sand from the beach. I loved the food, ambiance, and the vibe. The service and the music were also amazing.
Taboo Restuarant and Beach Club was one of the best experience’s I’ve had in a long time. From the delicious food to the live violinist and saxophonist playing to the beat of the music, as everyone stood on the tables and chairs clapping along and dancing making this an experience of a lifetime. During the dat this same club turns into a beach club with a Live DJ and all.
Last but not least we enjoyed dinner at Chambao Grillhouse Restuarant. This restaurant sits next door to Taboo. I had the Glazed Sea Bass, and I must say it was the best Sea bass I have ever had. If you go here with a group of people, be sure to share the sides, they are fairly large. Everyone enjoyed their food and bragged about how great everything was. I was so happy to have experienced three really good restaurants with a group of people and not one person complained.
I would Recommend if you’re heading to Mexico, or the surrounding areas, add Tulum to your places to visit. Check out either of these restaurants, hell if you have time hit all three. Definitely was one of my top places to visit.
