Wine Down Wednesday

Black Girls Magic is just in time for Black History Month. This weeks wine was created by two African American half sisters Andrea and Robin McBride. In a field dominated by white men they Started their Wine Company in 2010. Ninety percent of wine produced in the U.S. is made in California, but only 10 percent of the states wineries are led by a female winemaker. They faced many hurdles, obstacles and lack of recognition because of their gender, but their passionate vision and goals kept them going.

The sisters have assembled a team that’s 80 percent women, including their head winemaker and vineyard director. Success was not just about selling wine, but also creating a sort of sisterhood among their mostly female staff. Fast forward to Black Girls Magic which is more than a phase. According to the McBride Sisters it’s a feeling. A look. A mood. A taste.

The Black Girls Magic Collection is a personal ode to their culture, beauty and style inspired by the magic and resilience of Black Women, to be enjoyed by all. These wines were created to draw a parallel to the culture, beauty, and style of Black women as a means to inspire, inform and invite all who appreciate and respect what Black Girl Magic truly means.

This wine is a smooth red blend, voluptuous, and full-bodied with flavors of cherry and plum, cedar and vanilla with a 13.5% alcohol level. My taste for red wine has gone from sweet to bold. It is definitely a wine that I will make sure to keep on my wine rack. The Black Girls Magic Collection also comes in Rose, Riesling, and Sparkling Brut. I will be trying them all! Which one will you keep stocked?
